deals on PC parts. I posted here last week asking for guidance on what sort of HTPC setup I would need and ended up doing a A6-6400k + mini ITX build and I'm very satisfied with how it turned out. Now my dilemma is to find the perfect keyboard to control the PC from. My motherboard has built-in Bluetooth so I'm open to either BT or RF. I think they work about the same? I am sticking with plain old Windows 7 as the OS for this machine, since I do a lot of browser streaming (Netflix, PAC 12 network, NFL Gamepass, YouTube) and the occasional VPN session, so it's essential to have both keyboard and mouse functions.

I've done my research and have narrowed it down to the following choices:. Logitech K400. It's cheap and is an 'all in one' solution with a touchpad. The only problem is that it's not backlit.

Favi FE02RF-BL. Still relatively cheap, has touchpad built in, has backlighting. Problem is that it's so small and I don't know how well you can type on it. Also the reviews on Amazon seem to be hit or miss regarding the quality of the unit. Logitech DiNovo Mini/PC controller. More expensive than the Favi, but seems to be better quality. I programmed a DirecTV remote to control all of the major functions of plex and xbmc. With Windows 8 I can use it to also navigate the metro tiles, so I can go straight from start up into XBMC/PLEX and play anything all from a remote control. The one thing my Flirc can't do is remotely turn on the PC from an off state.

It can wake it up from a hibernated state though. If youre willing to do something a little different, you can get a dual core android tablet for $75 on amazon from alldaymall. Run unified remote on it and install the server on your htpc. Its what I use, and I highly recommend it. I also use the yatse remote to control xbmc because honestly the gui is intuitive and looks badass. Gets lots of attention from visitors.

Also something to think about: netflix windows 8 app is perfect for htpcs and doesnt pause every 15 minutes like the browser version.

Previously I ordered the FAVI FE02RF-BL. It works on RF to a dongle into a standard USB. It was said to work right away. Well it didn't. So after much internal debate, I took a chance on this model, the FAVI FE02BT-BL. It works on Bluetooth. That's the only difference. Both models (-BL) have a back light.
